We both remarked on how getting our nails done somehow make us feel better, more competent. While I agreed, I still don't get mine done often. As someone who writes and types all day, sometimes freshly painted nails can feel like the equivalent of having the rest of my life together.
Lately, the more I read about "self-care" or in a more new-age way, the idea of truly liking yourself, the more I realize it affects every aspect of life. Things like: taking care of your health, getting a massage, taking the time to sit and read, or getting a hair cut, all make a difference. When you feel or look good, you may be kinder to yourself.
Sometimes you have to indulge. When I find myself neglecting the "extras" it's usually because I've become too busy or preoccupied in other areas of my life. On my most recent day off, I decided to get a manicure and pedicure and get my hair blown out. Spending most of my day being primped and prodded probably wasn't the best use of my time, but once everything was complete, I felt like a new person.
Below is this week's weekly mantra, and it comes from Buddha. Enjoy! x
"You can search throughout the entire universe for someone who is more deserving of your love and affection than you are yourself, and that person is not to be found anywhere. You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe deserve your love and affection." Buddha
